Things You Should Never Pack for a Move

Most moving companies can’t transport the following items by federal law and internal policy.

If you’re caught trying to move them by moving truck, you and the moving company could be subject to fines or other penalties.

If you must move these items, please do so by car.

Hazardous Materials

Things that are flammable, corrosive, or explosive:

• Charcoal
• Charcoal lighter fluid
• Chemistry sets
• Cleaning solvents
• Fertilizer
• Fireworks
• Gasoline
• Kerosene
• Lamp oil
• Liquid bleach
• Loaded guns
• Matches
• Motor oil
• Paint thinner
• Nail polish remover
• Paints
• Pesticides
• Poisons
• Pool chemicals
• Propane tanks
• Sterno
• Weedkiller

Perishables

Food, plants, or living things that may die or spoil in transit:

• Frozen foods
• Plants
• Produce
• Refrigerated foods
• Open or half-used foods

Items of Personal Importance or Sentimental Value:

These things should be packed separately and moved in your vehicle to ensure they stay safe:

• Stamp or coin collections
• Deeds or wills
• Moving documents
• Family photographs
• Personal electronics
• Securities
• Cash
• Valuable jewelry
• Car titles
• Lease or rental agreements

Other Stuff

Be sure to check state and federal laws before moving these items. Also, please don’t place anything illegal in a moving box destined for the truck!
