Over 70% of Hawthorne residents are renters. That’s well above the national average.
A high renter share correlates with higher mobility. Tenants move to better neighborhoods, cities with lower housing costs, or areas closer to work. Hawthorne residents move a lot.
The third or fourth move after college starts to feel like a chore, especially as joints age and possessions accumulate.
So, if this sounds like a familiar scenario, now’s the time to call Walsh Moving & Storage. We handle local and long-distance moves, and have served Hawthorne and metro LA for over 60 years.
We’ll show up on time, pack and load your things with care, and unload them in your new digs exactly according to your request.
We take ownership of your move from start to finish. We don’t subcontract any portion of your move to other companies.
We guarantee your local moving pickup and delivery date. Some other companies aren’t able to do this.
We have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
We carry full insurance. If anything breaks during your move (unlikely), Walsh pays for the damage in most cases.
Walsh movers are covered by company medical and Worker’s Compensation. If someone gets hurt during your DIY move, you, the homeowner or renter, could be liable.
We offer short-term storage for companies and customers in transition. If your permanent accommodations aren’t ready, we’ll keep your things in secure vaults or trailer storage until they are.
Walsh Core Values
We treat your possessions as if they were our own.
We focus on customer service and the quality of your experience.
We take ownership of your move from start to finish and don’t subcontract any portion to other companies.
Local moves can include transitions from apartment to apartment, house to house, or even between neighboring cities. Additionally, we help reorganize furniture within the same building.
Businesses evolve, which often means outgrowing their current space, downsizing to stay competitive, or relocating to capitalize on better opportunities or leases. Whatever the reason, your move requires careful planning and reliable support.
The movers you choose should be accommodating, working around your business schedule to minimize disruption. They need to understand when it’s essential to remove supplies, furniture, and equipment and when it’s better to wait.
At Walsh Moving, we meticulously plan every detail of your relocation before the first truck even hits the road, ensuring a seamless and efficient move for your business.
Short-term vault and trailer storage provide a secure alternative to self-storage, though access is more restricted. This type of storage is ideal for safeguarding belongings while searching for a permanent home or waiting for a renovation project to be completed.
Normally, short-term storage is included as part of a moving package rather than offered as a standalone service. However, if you need temporary storage for items like a sofa or a piano — whether planned or on short notice — we’re equipped to assist.
Our professionals are trained to treat your belongings with the utmost care. If anything is damaged during the packing or moving process, we’ll compensate you, as most damages are fully covered.
Trust our experienced movers to pack delicate items like breakables, electronics, antiques, and family heirlooms with precision and respect.
It might sound simple — just shifting some items around the house or office, right? But for Walsh’s professional movers, the task is far more manageable than it is for the average person.
Plus, our movers are insured — not only against injuries (which are far less likely due to their expertise) but also for any potential damage to your belongings.

Moving Tips for Hawthorne Residents
1. Plan Around LA Traffic Patterns
Hawthorne is in the heart of the South Bay and near major freeways like the 105, 405, and 110, which can get heavily congested.
Move mid-morning (10AM–1PM) or early afternoon on weekdays. Avoid early mornings and evening rush hours.
If you’re moving on a weekend, start early before beach traffic toward Manhattan Beach and El Segundo builds up.
2. Secure Parking & Permits
Some neighborhoods in Hawthorne have narrow streets or limited curb space, especially near apartments or multifamily units.
Check with the City of Hawthorne Public Works Department for a temporary parking or special loading zone permit (Walsh will do this for you).
In areas like Holly Park or Ramona, notify neighbors ahead of time to keep space clear.
3. Consider Proximity to LAX
Hawthorne is just minutes from LA International Airport, which can mean extra traffic and restricted truck access near certain streets.
If you’re near the Aviation Blvd or Century Blvd corridors, alert your movers so they can plan the best route to avoid airport congestion.
Hawthorne has been an aviation center since WWII.
4. Account for South Bay Weather
Hawthorne has mild weather year-round, but:
June Gloom can mean cool, damp mornings — cover items if moving early.
Late summer (Aug–Oct) can bring hot, dry days. Hydrate your movers and avoid heat-sensitive packing (candles, electronics).
5. Protect Against Coastal Dust & Salt Air
Being near the ocean means fine coastal dust and salty air can affect belongings in storage or open trucks.
Wrap electronics, metal items, and upholstered furniture carefully to prevent corrosion or discoloration.
If moving to a storage unit, choose a climate-controlled facility to protect from humidity and salt exposure.
6. Hire a Moving Company Familiar with South Bay Rules
Not all moving companies understand South Bay parking restrictions, HOA rules, or access issues.
Look for movers experienced in the Hawthorne, El Segundo, and Torrance neighborhoods. They’ll know how to navigate tight alleys and limited parking.
If you live in a gated community or condo complex, check if HOA move-in/move-out schedules or elevator reservations are required.
